    Data Protection Workflow

    Definition

Data Protection or Offline archiving tasks secure the selected data on a dedicated storage tier.

Data accessibility is managed by administrator behind the workflow.

This provides the capability to only read data or get back data online.

Depending of the selected media, the data can be moved physically offsite. This requires human intervention to get back the data online.

Users have the ability to execute an offline workflow which will copy or move data to secondary tiers pool of storage. These types of data workflows serve several purposes:

    • Protect stored content that is online (online, means "editable" by users or applications). The workflow makes it possible to make a copy of this data according to defined criteria.
    • Archive read-only data, with the possibility of outsourcing it (off bookstore - off-site).

    The criteria are available on:

    • Folder, sub folder selection at the source,
    • Selection of different storage pool at destination,
    • Selection on age / date accessibility of the files,
    • Filtering with inclusion / exclusion of files,
    • Incremental or full type selection depending on the content of the storage pool selected at destination,
    • Frequency of execution of workflows,
    • Frequency of parsing files and directories are adjustable to optimize the system,
    • Workflow execution priority.

Users and administrators are able to vault data on tapes or in a S3 bucket. A complete traceability is kept and customer end-user/administrator have an overview of their data mobility even if the data has been secure offline.

In case of tape library, data can even be move out of the library (off site). The LTFS format helps to remove files from the appliance, shared and stored. Furthermore, as they are stored in an open format, under a common standard, other divisions, customers or workgroups can easily access data.
