What's Active Archive ?

Data archiving or Active Archive is use to move inactive data to a secondary storage choose by the strategy of the Enterprises (NAS, Object Storage or Tape, whatever).  The production application need to free space to continue for new business application but enterprise need to keep an access if required.  A secondary storage is then elected during a time defined by the businnss workflow.  

Experts and Analyst say that in most organizations, 80% or more of data are not used and this data stay on the primary storage which are very expensive in term of hardware but also in term of IT department which must manage all (firstly, the storage and secondly their backup and finally the data protection).

NFS and SMB allows data transfer to Containers which is seen as Network Shared Folder. Container can also be seen as an S3 bucket with an access authentification per user.

Caching

Caching system allows fast access for all data transactions. Read and Write.

User & Group management

For each network folder you are able to set the access rights for one or more users and/or groups of users. The authentication and autorisation can be managed locally, with Active Directory or with LDAP.
